What is the lifespan of a flat panel detector?

The lifespan of an X-ray flat panel detector (FPD) can vary depending on several factors such as the technology used, usage patterns, and maintenance. Generally, FPDs have a lifespan ranging from 5 to 10 years or more. Amorphous silicon (a-Si) detectors, which are common in medical imaging, often have a lifespan of around 7 to 10 years with proper care. Direct and indirect conversion technologies, such as amorphous selenium (a-Se) detectors, may have different longevity. Regular maintenance, calibration, and adherence to manufacturer guidelines can extend the lifespan. Upgrades in technology may also drive replacements before the end of the physical lifespan. As advancements continue, newer FPDs with enhanced features and performance may prompt facilities to replace older units for improved diagnostic capabilities. If you are interested in our flat panel detectors, please feel free to contact us.
