The significance of flat panel detectors for DR digital x-ray machine systems

In recent years, the rapid development of China’s national economy has effectively promoted the upgrading of medical and other industries. Since the concept of digital medical care was introduced to China, DR digital x-ray machines have rapidly spread in medical institutions. At present, many hospitals in China have been equipped with this medical device, so what are the needs of the hospital when purchasing the DR digital x-ray machine?

Flat panel detectors are the most critical part of the overall system and are important for the resolution of the system. At present, flat panel detectors are classified into amorphous selenium flat panel detectors and amorphous silicon flat panel detectors.

The limit DQE of amorphous silicon flat panel detector is relatively high, but with the increase of spatial resolution, its DQE decreases more; while the amorphous selenium flat panel detector decreases with the spatial resolution, its DQE declines more gently. At high spatial resolution, DQE surpasses amorphous silicon flat panel detectors. This characteristic indicates that the amorphous silicon flat panel detector has a strong ability to distinguish the difference in tissue density; while the amorphous selenium flat panel detector has a higher ability to distinguish the fine structure difference.

It can be seen that different types of flat panel detectors have different DQE and spatial resolution due to different materials, structures and processes. DQE affects the ability to resolve differences in tissue density; spatial resolution affects the ability to resolve fine structures. There is currently no flat panel detector with DQE and high spatial resolution, so a balance between the two is needed.
