How does the indirect flat panel detector work?

The flat panel detector is the core component of the DR. The flat panel detector can be divided into two types from energy conversion: indirect conversion flat panel detector (indirect FPD) and direct conversion flat panel detector (direct FPD).

The direct conversion flat panel detector is mainly a flat panel detector composed of an amorphous selenium (a-Se) plus a thin film semiconductor array (TFT). Since amorphous selenium is a photoconductive material, an electron-hole pair is directly formed after X-ray exposure, an electrical signal is generated, an array is detected by a TFT, and a digitized image is obtained by A/D conversion. Since amorphous selenium does not generate visible light and has no effect of scattered light, a relatively high spatial resolution can be obtained.
